Laura came from Royalty. Her ancestors owned the first chickpea
farm but it was Laura who accidentally invented Hummus. As a
child she was stampeded by a heard of wild goats, leaving her a
bit confused. The family castle grounds had a winery and
chickpeas. Laura was asked to go to the vineyard, pick grapes
and then, using the old fashion method, stamp them down with her
bare feet. She instead went to the chickpea side, picked them
and then walked upon them. She realized her mistake after about
5 hours and was afraid she would be sent the a convent, so she
added some spices to the mix and called it Hummus, as she would
hum as she stamped. It was such a hit, the family began
producing it in large amounts and made a fortune. But, their
country was soon over run and the castle destroyed. Laura and
family sailed to America and she began life anew in the circus.

Born in a coal mine where her mother worked delivering coffee to
the miners was a tough start to life for Nanci. But the
hardships of poverty in the Appalachian Mountains of West
Virginia did not deter her from making a go at life. Married at
age 11 to her first cousin Bobby Joe, Nanci learned early how to
care for a home, herd sheep, drink red-eyes with the boys and
brew home-made grain alcohol. At age 15, she tired of the simple
life in her tin-roof home and fled her husband for the big
city...she hitched a ride from a very old lady who took Nanci to
